…announces Reconciliatory, Finance, other Committees
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Abia State, has announced the member representing Obingwa East State Constituency, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu as the Speaker of the PDP Shadow Government in the Abia House of Assembly.
Recall that the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Elder Abraham Amah after the inauguration of the new excos, announced that the PDP will form a shadow government to act as a check on the ruling Labour Party in the State.
Announcing the decision of the State Working Committee of the Party on Tuesday in Umuahia, the Party Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah said Hon Akpulonu will head the shadow government in the Assembly as Speaker, acting as check on the Speaker of the House , Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa.
Elder Amah also revealed that in addition, Hon. Akpulonu acting as the Speaker of the shadow government in the Assembly, will together with other PDP members in the State Assembly, monitor bills that are anti-people and avoid pull him down syndrome, stressing that the purpose of the shadow government in the Assembly, is to enhance democratic ideals.
He also lauded PDP members in the current Abia 8th Assembly for their maturity in the discharge of their legislative functions, urging them to work in synergy with their constituents by providing them with democracy dividends.
According to Amah, Abians yearn for the return of the PDP, stressing that critical sectors of the State economy is not functioning optimally, insisting that even civil servants in the State are not happy owing to the way they are being treated by the present administration, expressing optimism that with the various Committees to enhance reconciliation among others, the party will bounce back in 2027.
Elder Amah used the opportunity to announce different Committees set up by the party including the PDP Reconciliatory Committee to be Co-chaired by Mr. Peter Aguwamba saddled with the responsibilities of locating aggrieved members, facilitate methods dialogue (including organising meetings), development of reconciliation strategies, monitoring and evaluation, reporting and communication, collaboration with the national reconciliation committee to ensure that all aggreived members return to the fold.
He also announced the approval of virtual lecture committee who will midwife a global virtual lecture in December 2024, Finance Committee among other Committees which according to him, will be unveiled in the coming weeks, stressing that the PDP is poised to reclaim power come 2027.
Responding on behalf of other members of the Reconciliatory Committee , the Co-chair, Mr Peter Aguwamba admitted that the task ahead the Committee is an upheaval one, assuring that with the approach deployed and God on their side, many aggreived members will return to the PDP.
Addressing newsmen, the Zonal Vice Chairman Abia South, and a former Chief Press Secretary to the immediate past Governor of Abia State , Enyinnaya Apollos, emphasized that it has become germane for the PDP to move beyond the events of 2023.
He said as a party that lost in the 2023 election, is imperative for the party to go back to the drawing board to reflect on what transpired, and also work on ways to ensure that the party is repositioned ahead 2027.
Apollos noted that the reconciliation is not only for people that left the party, but will also address misgivings from those currently in the party, noting that if the party should achieve all these, it is only important to set up a Reconciliatory Committee to bring the party back on track, expressing optimism that with the new blood assembled in the PDP, the party will take back power in 2027.
