Afaraukwu Kingdom Declares One Month Prayer, Fasting for Kanu’s Release

As part of efforts to ensure that their son and detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is released unconditionally, Traditional Rulers, The Afaraukwu Development Union, and the entire people of Afaraukwu kingdom over the weekend, went spiritual by declaring a month fasting and prayer for God to touch the hearts of those concerned.

The Traditional Rulers and members of the Afaraukwu Development Union noted that amid the prevailing circumstance, they strongly believe that having spent quite a long time in detention, several wounds possibly created by the impasse must have been healed.

They applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for welcoming calls and appeals from notable groups, organizations, bodies, well meaning Nigerians soliciting his release, stressing that time has indeed come to show mercy by releasing their son.

The Traditional Rulers and members of the Afaraukwu Development Union added their voice to that of other Nigerians, groups and organizations who are genuinely seeking for the release of Nnamdi Kanu in the interest of peace and security of life and property of the South-East geo-political zone.

Those including His Royal Highness, Edward Ibeabuchi, President Development Union, Sunny Apugo among others who spoke at the event, noted that the arrest and subsequent detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has elucidated reactions and heightened tensions in the South-East region

They, however, prayed President Tinubu and the Judiciary to kindly hearken to the patriotic calls and appeals of all Nigerians at home and diaspora to please release him while also urging him to consider political solution and the trauma the immediate family of the detained IPOB leader is passing through, and free him from detention.

They equally singled out and appreciated the South-East Governors led by Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state, Governor of Abia State Alex Otti, South-East Senators led by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, member Representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency Hon Obi Aguocha, member Representing Umuahia Central State Constituency Hon. Chinasa Anthony among others, who, according to them, have worked tirelessly towards the release of the IPOB leader.
