\n\u200eIn a communiqu\u00e9 issued at the end of its 19th Synod held from June 24 to June 28, 2026, at St. Peter\u2019s Church Ogbete, the church said the security threat \u201cshould not be ignored.\u201d

\n\u200e\u201cThe Synod notes, with serious concern, reports of terrorists operating within forests in the South East and urges both the Federal Government and governments in the region to immediately take steps to flush them out,\u201d it stated.

\n\u200eSigned by Bishop Samuel Obiajulu Ike and other principal officers, the communiqu\u00e9 faulted the Federal Government despite the N5.41 trillion budgeted for insecurity in 2026, noting that kidnappings, killings, and attacks persist.
\n\u200e
\n\u200eThe church condemned the abduction and killing of civilians, including children and teachers, and rejected the reintegration of \u201crepentant terrorists.\u201d It called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure terrorists and their sponsors face severe punishment.

\n\u200eThe Synod also said Christians appear to be deliberately targeted in attacks across Northern Nigeria and criticised delays in completing the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri Eastern Rail Line.

\n\u200eIt further urged INEC to ensure transparency ahead of the 2027 elections, commended Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu for progress in infrastructure, security, healthcare, and education, and declared zero tolerance for gender-based violence.
