\n\u200eSpeaking with newsmen in Umuahia, he applauded the Government of Dr. Alex Otti for his unwavering commitment to secure a cleaner atmosphere for Abians, through strategic planning in the transport sector.

\n\u200eHe revealed plans by the state government to import extra eighty electric busses into the State, noting that at the end of 2026, Abia State should have about 100 electric buses, for a safer and cleaner transport system, emphasising the need for Abians to follow suit.

\n\u200eWhile noting that electric vehicle is a new innovation globally, the Commissioner said that Abians will gradually fit into the scheme, adding that the onus rests on the government to lead the way for Abians to follow.

\n\u200eExpressing optimism that in a short while Abians will begin to patronize the mass electric vehicles, \u1ee4kaegbu described the new initiative as a cost saver, highlighting that the major cost in the vehicle is just the battery.

\n\u200eHe also disclosed that Abia already has about three dual charging Stations at the ICC, which can charge 6 vehicles at a stretch.

\n\u200e”If you go to ICC, we already have three dual charging stations, which means it can charge 6 vehicles at a stretch. By the end of this week or early next week, we shall complete 3 other charging stations at Afro Beverages in Aba. Before the completion of the central bus terminal, we shall install another twenty charging stations. As new buses arrive, more charging stations will come. We are working towards having zero emissions in the State”.he said.

\n\u200eDr. Chimezie who recalled the words of Governor Alex Otti during his inauguration, “Weep not, help has come”, stated that the pledges of Governor Otti continues to unfold, noting that the essence of the scheme is to encourage private corporation, and ease movement of travellers.

\n\u200eHe pointed out that this initiative does not aim to sideline transporters who use petrol powered vehicles, rather it is tailored to encourage easy movement of travellers and encourage drivers to switch to electric buses and cars.

\n\u200eThe Commissioner also used the opportunity to inform Abians that in November 2025, Abia State was awarded the State with the cheapest transport fare in Nigeria, stressing that Abia State transport fare is more affordable compared to other States.

\n\u200eDr. Chimezie said that his Ministry sensitises transport operators especially ASTOPU (Association of Tricycle Operators Union), to secure an affordable transport fare.
\n\u200e
\n\u200eReacting to activities of miscreants who use Keke to carry out criminal activities, Mr. Chimezie narrated that the spate of tricycle operators perpetrating crime in the State has drastically reduced.
\n\u200e
\n\u200eHe said he made it mandatory that all tricycle operators must register with a union, making it difficult for a tricycle operator to perpetrate crime and go scot free.

\n\u200eThe Commissioner who revealed that over 9 thousand ASEPA buckets have been sold to tricycle operators, to facilitate proper disposal while on transit, also called on tricycle operators and other transporters to adhere to the rules and regulations to secure a new and better Abia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
