The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District Senator Austin Akobundu (Rtd), has said that his decision to sponsor a Bill for the establishment of a National Sports University in the country is to foster sports development and excellence.<\/span><\/div>\n

Speaking during a press conference in Umuahia at the weekend where he presented his scorecard, one year after being sworn in as Senator, Akobundu said the university to be sited in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North LGA of Abia State, will also address the limited admission opportunities for the country’s youths.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Aside the Bill, the federal legislator, disclosed that he sponsored a Bill for the establishment of an Institute of Information and Communications Technology in Umuahia North, Abia State, and that the Bill aligns with his vision of equipping the youths of his constituency and beyond with globally competitive ICT skills.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Senator Akobundu who is also the deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs, said another Bill which he sponsored will lead to the establishment of a Federal College of Health Technology in Ikwuano if passed into law.<\/p>\n

According to him, all these Bills, have scaled First Reading, even as he revealed that he co-sponsored several other Bills and Motions and will continue to foster collaboration and support for legislative progress.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Akobundu revealed that he has continued to raise strong voice for rehabilitation of some federal roads in Abia State such as Enugu\u2013Umuahia\u2013Aba\u2013Port Harcourt Expressway, Umuahia\u2013Ikwuano\u2013Ikot Ekpene Road, and Ntalakwu\u2013Oloko\u2013Nchara Road, pointing out that while some progress has been made on them, \u201cI remain committed to ensuring these roads are fully rehabilitated\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Speaking on Oversight function of legislators, the Abia Senator who took Oath of Office as a Senator on November 15, 2024, outlined some of his numerous achievements under one year as a Senator.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that he has been engaging the relevant authorities for the completion of the various abandoned federal projects in Abia Central, adding that he is currently sponsoring free training of youths in digital technology in Umuahia and that he is equally training 113 students at the National Teachers\u2019 Institute to improve education quality.<\/p>\n

On strides recorded in agriculture, the federal lawmaker informed that he distributed 2,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers in September 2024.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On the Umuahia -Ikot Ekpene federal road, Senator Akobundu said he was mounting pressure on the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who is also a beneficiary for the competition of the project and believed that the 51-kilometer road would soon be delivered.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He also assured his constituents of his readiness to attract more dividends of democracy through impactful representation in the Red Chambers in the years ahead, even as he revealed that he has facilitated the recruitment of some of his constituents into federal agencies, including the Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, Nigerian Airforce (both Direct Short Service and regular recruitments), as well as the Nigerian Defence Academy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
