Alleged Domestic Violence: Imo Police Command Arrests 58-year-old Man 

The Imo State Police Command says it has arrested a 58-year-old man, Vitalis Nwoko, a native of Umuagba, Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, following an alleged incident of domestic violence that resulted in the death of his wife, Uloma.

‎The command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, who confirmed this in a press statement, said the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Ahiazu Mbaise Divisional Headquarters, following a report lodged at the Division by the deceased’s sister, who alleged that Nwoko violently assaulted his wife during a domestic dispute.

‎Okoye said during a preliminary investigation, the suspect claimed that a misunderstanding with his wife on 11 December escalated into a physical altercation, during which the victim collapsed and was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

‎According to the press statement, the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Owerri, for thorough investigation and possible prosecution.

‎The added that the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has urged residents to promptly report cases of domestic violence, assuring the public of the Command’s resolve to deal decisively with perpetrators.
