Abia State Government has announced that the monthly sanitation exercise for the month of November will hold this Saturday across the State between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00am.
The government also stated that movement of people and vehicles during the period shall be restricted except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand, valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.
A press statement signed by the Commissioner, Ministry of Environment Mr.Philemon Asonye and made available to newsmen on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Obioma Chidinma, said Executive Chairmen (Mayors) of the Local Government Councils , Traditional rulers,Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders, Youth and Women Organizations in the State are required to monitor and sensitise their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate as well.
The statement also said all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies, business premises are to remain closed on Friday November 28,:2025 between the hours of 7:00am and 9:00am to carry out their own clean-up exercise.
According to the statement men of the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are also required to assemble at their usual place of take-off for deployment.
While emphasising the need for Abians to participate in the exercise, the release further directed people to stay at home, clean up their surroundings and endeavour to work with their nose mask.
The statement further stated that defaulters shall be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
The statement reads in part: “The general public is hereby informed that the Monthly Sanitation Exercise for the Month of November will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025 in Abia State between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00am.
“The Executive Chairmen (Mayors) of the Local Government Councils , Traditional rulers,Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders,Youth and Women Organizations in the State are required to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate as well .
