Abia State Government has warned against unlawful collection of revenue by groups who claim to be working for the Abia State Government.

The State Government raised the alarm following the uncovering of a group of individuals operating under the following names: “NASWADEN”, “EDWISTA” and “Aba Metals”, revealing that the group unlawfully collect fees from scrap metal dealers (revenues that rightly belong to the State).

A statement made available to newsmen on Monday by the Abia State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Philemon Ogbonna, FCA, warned groups or individuals to desist from such illegal collection forthwith.

Ogbonna, said anyone caught engaging in this unlawful act, will be severely dealt with in line with the necessary laws prohibiting such act.

The statement reads in part: The Government of Abia State has observed with concern the activities of certain individuals and groups operating under the names: “NASWADEN” , “EDWISTA ” and “Aba Metals”, who have been unlawfully collecting fees from scrap metal dealers—revenues that rightly belong to the State.

“Accordingly, the Ministry of Environment hereby directs that all such illegal collections cease immediately. Anyone found engaging in these unlawful practices will be sanctioned in accordance with the law,” the statement concluded.
