Catechist Ambrose Jonah, the Deputy General Manager, Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Umuahia Zone, has urged Catholic Youths to be focused and refrain from activities that would undermine their spiritual growth.

He also reminded them that as youths, it is expected of them to serve the Lord in their youth as well as win souls for Christ and channel their energy towards the growth of the church.

At the Catholic Youth Organistion of Nigeria (CYON) Maiden Conference, comprising Umuahia Diocese, Aba Diocese, including Umunneochi, Uturu, and Isuikwuato deaneries at Mater Dei Cathedral, Umuahia, Catechist Jonah said Christians should have the power to speak to troubling situations around them.

Speaking on the topic: “Be ye the light of the world and the salt of the earth”, drawn from Matthew chapter five, verse fourteen, Jonah decried that many youths were initially filled with the spirit by virtue of their baptism but regretted that some have fallen apart.

Catechist Jonah, who emphasised the need for there to be a rekindling of the light to act as reflection for many, also lamented that some youths today, have their lights hidden while others have lost the taste in the salt.

He also stated that the present administration under Governor Alex Otti has taken development to the grassroots, with huge attention on agriculture and sports in the state, charging them to remain focused while continuously working on their spiritual growth.

Responding, the Umuahia Catholic Youth leader, Catechist Igboeche Ernest, listed several life-touching projects spread across the state, ranging from infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and rural development, which, according to him, is a testament to tangible dividends of responsible leadership and financial discipline under Governor Alex Otti.
