The Ebonyi State Police Command says it has arrested two suspected cultists and recovered a locally made pistol along with 14 rounds of live ammunition.
The command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abakaliki, adding that the suspects, identified as Chigbo Eze and Igbele Osinachi, were apprehended on Tuesday by operatives of the command’s Crack Squad at Amanekwula Village in Ezza South Local Council, following reports of sporadic gunshots in the area.
He said, “On October 21, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the command attached to the Crack Squad carried out a successful operation at Amanekwula Village. On sighting the police team, the hoodlums attempted to flee into a nearby bush, but two suspects were apprehended.”
Ukandu stated that the suspects are in custody while investigation is ongoing to uncover other members of the gang, assuring that they would be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.
On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Mrs Adaku Uche-Anya, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the state. She urged residents to continue providing credible information to help security agencies keep Ebonyi safe.
