As reactions continue to trail comment by the Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, Abia State caucus of the opposition Labour Party (LP) in the House of Representatives has criticized the Deputy Speaker of the House, Dr Benjamin Kalu, over his position that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would defeat the state governor, Alex Otti.
Southeastposts reports that the caucus, led by Ginger Onwusibe Obinna, in a statement yesterday, called on all Abians young and old, market women and traders, professionals, party members, elders and elite across party lines and political persuasions to stand united in support of what they termed “the transformational work” of Otti, and reject attempts by any individual to drag the state backwards for personal gain.
According to the lawmakers the people of the state are politically discerning and can see through Kalu’s antics and understand that his fight is not against one man but against the collective interest of good governance, peace, and progress in Abia State.
The Lawmakers, therefore, called on Kalu to engage in sober self-reflection, maintaining that his alleged hubris and remarks are unbecoming of a Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.
Recall that the governor’s Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Ferdinand Ekeoma, had in a statement titled “Governance In Abia: Benjamin Kalu Needs Tutorial More Than He Needs a Microphone,” described Kalu’s resolve to dislodge Otti’s led LP government in Abia State, and return President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027 as spurious.
He stated that Abia’s 2025 to date federal allocations for eight months, including local councils, stand at N125 billion, insisting that if Kalu’s false claim of monthly N38 billion is to go by, it would have stood at N304 billion.
