Ebonyi State Police Command says it has arrested three suspects in connection with an attempt to disrupt the announcement of results during the Student Union Government, SUG, election at Ebonyi State University.
According to the Police, the incident occurred while the election results were being announced, when the suspects allegedly fired gunshots to disperse the crowd.
In the process, the bullet struck a student, who was immediately rushed to Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital (AE-FUTHA), Abakaliki, for medical attention.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, and made available to journalists in Abakaliki, the Command said the swift response of police operatives on ground led to the arrest of the following suspects: Lawrence Azubuike ‘m’, Ibe Kenneth ‘m’, and Njoku Joshua ‘m’, as well as the recovery of a locally made pistol used in the act.
According to the Police, the suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
While responding to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, assured members of the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order across the state.
