Anambra Police Command Arrests Nigerian Soldier for Faking Kidnap

The Anambra State Police Command says it has arrested a Nigerian soldier, Samuel Ekezie, for faking his own kidnap.

Southeastposts reports that Ekezie, 38, of the 302 Artillery Regiment of the Nigerian Army, Onitsha, was nabbed on the evening of 15th September 2025 and taken into custody.

A statement by the Police Public Relations officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, a Superintendent of Police, hinted that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had on 15th August 2025 faked his own abduction and sent a text message to his family, demanding a ransom of N20 million for his supposed release.

According to the statement, the Anambra Police Command while acting on a technology-driven intelligence, arrested Ekezie while seeking refuge in Rivers State.

Meanwhile, the Command has assured of diligent investigations into the Case to ensure that justice is served.
