Chief Sir Chuku Wachuku, the ex-Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment, has congratulated Steve Oko on his emergence as Abia NUJ Correspondents Chapel Chairman.
Oko, a practicing journalist with the Vanguard newspaper, was elected unopposed during the chapel’s triennial conference held on Friday at its Secretariat, located at No. 1 Ojike/Bende Road, Umuahia North Local Government Headquarters.
Reacting to the feat attained by Oko in a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Jaja Martins, Chief Wachuku, described the development as a good recognition for sound journalism.
According to Chief Wachuku, the elevation of Oko to this position is a testament of his perception and experience of Oko as a man cast in a mould of journalistic excellence, stressing that this is a virtue that is rare in today’s much sought after excellence in “prose and grammar”.
Chief Wachuku wished Oko well in his new position, higher grounds, expressing optimism that he will deliver, given the experience he has garnered over the years in journalism practice.
The statement reads in part: Elevating you to this position is a confirmation of my perception and experience of you as a man cast in a mould of journalistic excellence; which is rapidly disappearing in today’s much sought after excellence in prose and grammar.
Congratulations Steve. Rise higher.
