Ebonyi Govt Denies Reports of Recruiting Auxiliary Nurses

The Ebonyi state government says it is not true that she is recruiting auxiliary nurses to attend to patients in her health facilities.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Moses Ekuma who made this known while reacting to the media report said that the Ministry under his watch has never contemplated sending auxiliary nurses to their facilities.

He explained that what the Ministry is doing is engaging group of people called Community Based Health Workers which include: Community Health Extension Workers who are nurses and skilled birth attendants to work with Doctors in taking delivery and managing labour.

According to him, Skill Birth Attendants will be posted to their health facilities especially the Primary Health Centres to attend to the pregnant women, take deliveries and refer cases when it becomes necessary.

Ekuma also said that the Junior Cimmunity Health Extension workers and the Assistant Community Based Health Workers will work in their various Communities.

He emphasized that the groups above will not be posted to the Health facilities, adding that their work will be to serve as a link between the Communities and the Health facilitues.

“We are recruiting ten per INEC recognized political ward. What they need to do is to go round, if they see any pregnant woman, they will ask the woman, have you registered, which Health centre did you register, when do you suppose to go for your antenatal clinic?

“I want to state it categorically clear that Ebonyi State Ministry of Health is not recruiting any auxiliary nurse and we are not going to post any auxiliary nurse to our health facility.

He urged Ebonyi residents especially those that have medical issues to visit Health facilities, stating that Health workers in these Health facilities are qualified, certified and licensed.
