Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Aboki Danjuma, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the fatal accident involving a gas truck and a coaster bus at Awo-Omamma, along the Owerri–Onitsha Road, on Sunday.

Southeastposts gathered that the crash claimed the lives of 12 passengers, including children, who were members of the Deeper Life Bible Church returning from a church programme.

Meanwhile, speaking during an on-the-spot assessment of the scene, Danjuma expressed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, who are receiving treatment in a nearby hospital.

The CP was accompanied by the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Imo State, Corps Commander Udensi Emea Oji, and other senior officers during the visit.

He directed State Traffic Officers (STO) to intensify enforcement of traffic regulations across the state and charged all road users to obey rules, prioritise safety, and drive responsibly to protect lives and property.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, the outcome of the investigation would be made public once concluded, adding that STOs would step up efforts to curb reckless and dangerous driving practices such as wrongful overtaking, excessive speeding, and general negligence on the road.
