Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, says the state has experienced a reduction in crime related activities under his watch in the past six months, adding that a total of 5,176 suspects were arrested within the period.
The CP dropped the hint while briefing Journalists at the State Police headquarters on Thursday to render account of his services in the past six months he was re-posted to Enugu.
According to him, the success is based on proactive policing strategies adopted by the State Police Command, in harmony with other security agencies.
He said agitations for secession has been drastically curtailed through proactive strategies and farmers versus herders clash equally reduced to the barest minimum.
He stated, “The command has adopted proactive policing as its main crime-fighting strategy, yielding impressive results.
“We have witnessed a marked reduction in violent crimes carried out under the guise of secessionist agitation.
“The command has also deployed joint security teams to tackle herders-farmers-related clashes in communities of Isi-Uzo and Uzo-Uwani Local Government Areas, restoring relative peace and security”,CP Giwa stated.
He lauded his command and other security agencies in the state for effective security management recorded in Enugu state during the 2025 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Giwa described it as a very notable achievement and said, “Not a single crime was recorded before, during, or after the event. This was made possible through deliberate and strategic security planning, coordination, and execution, with the support of sister security agencies, the Enugu State Forest Guards, and the Neighbourhood Watch Group.”.
According to him the total of 5,176 suspects of various crimes in the last six months under his watch are being investigated while many have been charged to court.
He gave their break down to include 98 armed robbery suspects:,87 kidnap suspects and 50 murder cases.
CP Giwa said 16 persons were arrested for unlawful possession of arms and ammunition, 11 for rape and defilement whereas 122 were being investigated for their involvement in cultism related cases.
He further disclosed that 113 kidnapped victims were rescued, 105 firearms and ammunition, and 71 stolen posh car were recovered.
The CP mentioned the case of the millionaire native doctor, Obieze Levi and his accomplices and that of two sisters who arranged the kidnap of their kinsman and demanded N10,000.000 ransom,as part of the achievements of Enugu state command under his watch, in the past six months.
He stated, “Among the most notable cases was the recent arrest of an 18-year Obodoagu Ikediekpere and another individual for the kidnapping and murder of his 5-year old second cousin.
“In another widely publicized case, the suspect Obieze Levi, alias ‘E Dey Play E Dey Show,’ was arrested alongside two accomplices and charged with kidnapping and ritual murder.
“Additionally, two sisters, Juliet Chukwu and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu were apprehended, arraigned in court and remanded for kidnapping and collecting a ransom of N10,000.000 from their kinsman”,CP Giwa stated.
CP Giwa acknowledged the support of the Inspector General of Police and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu state to the command.
