The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has once again denied allegation by British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, and google that it was responsible for the murder Ahmed Gulak, a political chieftain in Owerri, Imo state capital sometime ego insisting that it is false, unfounded and a figment of their own imagination.
Speaking through its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the movement said it is part of the co-ordinated media war being waged by BBC and Google against IPOB and its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB said, “The latest episode is their shameless decision to prominently showcase and associate the name of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu with the alleged forged death certificate of Ahmed Gulak. This false and malicious linkage is not only wicked but calculated to demonise IPOB before the Nigerian and international public.
“It is a matter of public record that Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State himself openly declared that IPOB had nothing to do with the killing of Ahmed Gulak. He described the incident as purely politically motivated. This statement came from the highest political authority in Imo State, the theatre of the event. Yet, BBC and Google have deliberately ignored this authoritative clarification.
“IPOB had no hand in the unfortunate death of Ahmed Gulak. Any attempt to link IPOB or Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to that incident is a criminal fabrication.
IPOB further said by repeatedly pushing this false narrative, BBC and Google have aligned themselves with the oppressive Nigerian regime that thrives on lies and persecution.
The group stated that these platforms are knowingly endangering the life of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who remains in illegal detention, and deliberately conditioning public opinion ahead of judicial rulings.
“We ask openly: What do BBC and Google hope to gain by consistently manipulating the narrative to favour tyranny and injustice? Is it to shield the real perpetrators of Gulak’s death from scrutiny?
Is it to provide cover for the Nigerian government’s political persecution of IPOB? Or is it to entrench a system where the voices of indigenous people demanding freedom are forever silenced?
“We call on the BBC, Google, and their local collaborators to immediately desist from these false, defamatory, and dangerous publications. The world must hold them accountable if their propaganda contributes to further rights abuses or violence against Biafrans.
“The Indigenous People of Biafra remain a peaceful, lawful self-determination movement recognised internationally. Our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, must not be sacrificed on the altar of cheap propaganda and foreign-backed conspiracy,” IPOB maintained.
