Many frustrated Abia Civil Servants who trooped out in large numbers on Monday to participate in the Guidelines and Registration Notice for the 2024 and 2025 Abia State Civil Service Promotion, Confirmation, and Conversion Examinations, have called for digitalized approach to the process.
The exercise which commenced on Monday at the Abia State Head of Service, saw large crowd of Abia Civil Servants converge in their large numbers to pick promotion, confirmation and conversion forms.
When Southeastposts visited the venue, Civil Servants were spotted in queues struggling to pick the forms while some were also seen in clusters discussing the entire process, describing it as rigorous, disgusting, exerting, dehumanising among others.
Those who spoke to Southeastposts on condition of anonymity, expressed fear of a possible stampede considering the outrageous number of Civil Servants that were already on ground.
They also stated that their fears stem from the fact that more people were still on their way coming, saying that if the state government did not stop the exercise and seek digital approach, there could be population implosion.
The civil servants from various Ministries, Parastatals, Departments and Agencies, expressed worry that at this technology age with various applications, they are subjected to this kind of exercise, calling on the state government to utilize the humongous amount it receives from the Federation account to deploy an application that would ease the long queues and struggles for promotion and conversion forms.
Some Civil Servants in the Ministries of Education, Health, among others, advised the State Government to come up with Google form or a portal for people to fill the form than seek their presence.
According to them, subjecting civil servants to this level of stress in this era of tech is absurd, saying there could be stampede, slumps, among other negative things.
They also suggested to the State Government to make the forms available through Heads of Departments, Admins of various MDAs to disseminate to their workers.
Meanwhile, some of the Civil Servants who later spoke to Southeastposts, confirmed that the exercise has been suspended owing to the outrageous number of people that turned out.
Unconfirmed reports suggested that the Head of Service, Mr. Benson Ojeikere, had earlier informed Governor Alex Otti of the challenges which led to the suspension of the exercise which many sensed, will lead to the collection of the promotion and conversion forms in MDAs.
