Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, has announced a ban on house and land agents, begining from 2026.
According to the governor, the decision is part of efforts to curb soaring rents and protect residents from exploitation.
The Governor accused agents of charging excessive fees, sometimes as high as ₦500,000 for property that do not belong to them.
Nwifuru said, “Beginning next year, no agent will be permitted to collect money from individuals seeking accommodation across the state.”
It is expected that the ban will rebrand the property market in Ebonyi just as it is also expected that this move will enhance direct transactions between landlords and tenants.
