The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday declared Christopher Enweremadu wanted over allegations of criminal conspiracy, diversion of public funds, and money laundering.
In a notice signed by Dele Oyewale, EFCC spokesperson, the anti- graft agency listed Enweremadu’s last known address as the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Umuahia, Abia State.
The Commission urged anyone with useful information on his whereabouts to contact any of its offices across the country.
The notice reads in part: “The public is hereby notified that CHRISTOPHER ENWEREMADU, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, diversion of public funds, stealing and money laundering.
“Anybody with useful information as to his whereabouts should please contact the Commission in its Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt or Abuja offices.”
Recall that Enweremadu, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters under immediate past Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, has previously been linked to investigations into the handling of local government funds in Abia.
Recall also that in December 2024, a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja ordered a probe into allocations to 17 LGAs in Abia between 2019 and 2023.
The court’s decision followed an ex parte motion filed by an activist who argued that billions of naira allocated to Abia local government areas during the period were controlled by the officials.
Meanwhile , the EFCC did not release further details of the transactions linked to Enweremadu in the latest wanted notice.
