A four weeks Summer Lessons with the theme, “The Literacy Bridge”, organized for selected pupils and secondary school students by Eduimpact Initiative in partnership with BON Accord, has ended in Umuahia with winners from various categories smiling home with mouthwatering prices including cash and other prices.
The event, which had its grand finale held on Saturday at the Community Secondary School, Old Umuahia, Abia State, witnessed massive turnout of children of school age, parents, guardians, and friends of the foundation who turned out en masse to witness academic excellence.
Southeastposts, reports that over four hundred and sixty school children in primary and secondary schools in the state participated in the four weeks programme which provided an opportunity to give back to the society as well as encourage young ones to cultivate the habit of taking their studies seriously .
Addressing Journalists at the end of the event, the Program Associate for Eduimpact Initiative, Osinachi Ekwueme, said the idea behind the program, is to give back to the society and motivate young people to take their studies seriously.
He revealed that the Summer Lessons is one among many programs they have in store for the people of Abia State, adding that it synchronizes with the vision of their Programs Director, Joel Asonye, who is passionate about the literacy level of the Abia child.
Ekwueme told newsmen that four hundred and sixty primary and secondary school students enrolled in the summer lesson, informing that through rigorous and painstaking academic exercise with good learning environment provided by the Programs Director, they were able to arrive at the overall pupils and students from all the categories.
He appreciated the pupils and students for comporting themselves all through the exercise, appreciating parents and guardians for registering their wards while calling on those who emerged to channel the cash and other rewards given them to ensure they widen their horizon.

On his part, a member of BON Accord Brothers and a native of old Umuahia, Onyeanula Chinomso, said they are pleased to partner Eduimpact Initiative to ensure that school children from the area continue to receive helping hand vis-à-vis their education.
He recalled that before now, people from old Umuahia are respected because they are well read, reiterating that the aim of the initiative and partnership is to ensure that the fire is not extinguished by the upcoming generation, pledging that they will continue to prioritize the education of children in the State.
Contributing, the Permanent Secretary Abia Ministry of Environment, Mr. Ikechukwu Oriuwa, commended the Eduimpact Initiative and BON Accord Brothers for taking the bull by the horn by ensuring that they enhance the literacy level of the Abia children.
He admitted that the gesture is in line with the vision of the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, stating that in order to ameliorate the sufferings and struggles of families in providing free and compulsory education in the State, the Governor declared free education so that no Abia child will be left behind.
Oriuwa, used to opportunity to call on well meaning Abians at home and in disapora to emulate the gesture by Eduimpact Initiative and BON Accord Brothers, emphasising that government cannot do it alone but requires the collaboration of all to ensure that the State moves to the next level, saying all hands are required to complement the efforts of Governor Alex Otti.

Earlier, while speaking virtually, Mr Joel Asonye, Co-founder and Program Director (literacy bridge), said the Initiative is a non-profit startup that focuses on bridging the gap in literacy education for young people between the age of 10 and 21 years old.
According to him, there are other projects that Eduimpact Initiative is handling including: Tech boot camp and environmental awareness about the good of the Nigerian environment.
He said, “But today we’re are talking about the Literacy Bridge 2025 Summer Lesson, which has been a massive programme. And this programme wouldn’t have been this massive without the help and support of our partners, the BON Accord Brothers, which is a platform that promotes community development. During our programme this August, we were able to enroll over 460 students.
He said the program, saw top performers as well as those struggling, insisting that having realised this gap, Eduimpact Initiative and BON Accord Brothers as organisations that promote success will continue to bridge such gaps.
Asonye, said it has even become pertinent now to continue supporting young people who, according to him, they were able to evaluate through simple means on their reading, writing and comprehension abilities.
He used the opportunity to appreciate the Governor Alex Otti led administration in the State for the massive work he is doing in the education sector, admitting that more work still needs to be done in the education sector.
Asonye called on the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders in the education sector to synergize and create a working environment for organisations like Eduimpact Initiative and BON Accord Brothers, stressing that they are willing to assist communities by addressing pertinent issues inherent there.
Interacting with Journalists, Iheukwumere Yvette, the overall best performer in Primary 4, Wogu Chinaka Prudent, the overall best performer in Senior Secondary 5 who went home with a whooping sum of N250,000, applauded the organisers of the event, saying the knowledge acquired will assist them in future endeavors.
Southeastposts reports that the 1st position went home with the sum of N250,000, 2nd position N150,000, third position N100,000, there were financial prices of N15,000 each for 10 secondary school students as well as 30 quality bags for best primary 4-6 pupils.
