Gov Mbah Tasks Civil Servants to Embrace Digital Transformation

Governor, Peter Mbah of Enugu State, has warned civil servants in the state to embrace digital transformation or risk falling behind.

Mbah’s message came during the launch of the e-Government Capacity Building Programme, a three-day training initiative aimed at modernizing the state’s public sector through technology.

The programme held from August 20th to 22nd at the Enugu State College of Education (Technical),  brought together 110 public officials for intensive training on digital governance tools and practices.

Southeastposts reports that the Initiative was powered by the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and Enugu’s Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.

Governor Mbah represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, reminded civil servants that it is a new era in civil service, defined by speed, transparency, and accountability.

Onyia said“The Governor is working round the clock to make work easier for public and civil servants. “In today’s government, we have significantly reduced the use of carbon and paper. This is what e-governance is all about, working smart, not hard,” he said.

He stressed that the Mbah administration is investing not just in systems, but in people. “The Governor wants to give you the right training and the right tools to work, and to hold you responsible if you fail, calling on civil servants to “key into the Governor’s vision for e-governance to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and prudence in all you do,” he said.

Onyia also appreciated the Federal Ministry and KOICA for partnering the state to make the training a reality, expressing optimism for future collaborations.

He lauded the Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Lawrence Ezeh, describing him as “a man who shines no matter where you place him.”

Commissioner Ezeh, in his address, described the training as “a transformative step” and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to delivering on the Governor’s digital agenda.

According to him, the training is part of a larger roadmap laid out by Governor Mbah to make Enugu one of Nigeria’s leading states in digital public service delivery.

He added that the initiative also aligns with global movements toward sustainability and efficiency, as public institutions worldwide shift from analog systems to tech-driven models.
