A group, the Igbo Community Association, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has lauded the railway project from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri.
Recall that the project is covered in the recent loan approved for the President Bola Tinubu government by the National Assembly.
Southeastposts reports that under the late former president Muhammadu Buhari, South-East railway project was totally excluded, which caused rage from the people of the zone.
Meanwhile, the Igbo Community in FCT has, however, commended Tinubu for factoring the Southeast.
In a statement signed by Engr. IkennaEllis-Ezenekwe, President General and Emmanuel Chinwoke Onah, Secretary General, the group said the recent action by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu to kick start the process to build lite railway lines in the various geopolitical regions of Nigeria is worthy of commendation and stands in line with the demands of the Igbo Community Association FCT.
The group said, “This action on his part is sure to begin to reverse the many years of infrastructural dilapidation that have littered the various geopolitical regions of Nigeria.
“The people of the South East region are particularly elated by this move. This is because of the historic level of neglect by the federal government.”
While commending the move, the Igbo Community in FCT, added that it will go a long way to welcoming the people of the South-East back into the Nigeria fold.
“We are glad to be considered and regarded as Nigerians again. The President deserves to be hailed for this historic move.
“It will help untie the economy of the south east. When the railway lines come to life, the trade and business activities within the south east will experience a boost that will create employment and reduce restiveness.
“The people of the South-East region are hard working people who have shown their ability to develop towns and communities into booming cities across the country,” the group further stated.
