Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state, has lauded May & Baker Nigeria Plc for manufacturing drugs locally at the the firm’s ultramodern factory in Ota, Ogun State, known as the Pharmacentre.
Soludo, who attended the 2025 Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria’s (ACPN) conference recently in Awka, Anambra State, visited the May & Baker exhibition stand upon arrival.
Southeastposts reports that Soludo was impressed to see that most of the drugs on display were produced locally at the firm’s ultramodern factory.
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of May & Baker, Patrick Ajah, who welcomed the governor, highlighted M&B’s commitment as the first pharmaceutical company in Nigeria to invest in innovation and quality of locally produced medications.
According to him, investing in the herbal factory is important to the Company which is why it dedicated to producing innovative herbal medicines, derived from locally available herbs and research from locally available herbs and by Nigerian scientists.
Ajah mentioned products like ‘Roveda’ that is made from bitter-leaf, a creation of Nigerian scientist, Prof. Izevbigie, the Vice Chancellor of Benson Idahosa University, Benin City, and Niclovix, which was developed by the Nigerian Institute for Pharmaceutical Research (NIPRD) in Abuja.
According to him, both products are manufactured in May & Baker’s herbal facility and distributed by the company.
Governor Soludo engaged in the conversation and inquired about the medicinal use of the product and their target consumers.
Speaking on M&B’s investment in Anambra State, Ajah told Soludo that May & Baker currently operates a depot in Onitsha and is in the process of constructing its own facility in the area.
