Abia State Government says it has approved the sum of two hundred thousand naira each as monthly imprest for Heads of Environmental Health Officers across the 17 local government areas of the state for sanitary inspections.

Mr Philemon Ogbonna, the Commissioner for Environment stated this at a meeting with HODs of Environmental Health Officers of the 17 LGAs of the state on Friday.

He challenged them to move into the nooks and crannies of the state to ensure a clean environment, urging them to work in close collaboration with their mayors,

Ogbonna pointed out that the present administration expects much from them in terms of service delivery, emphasising the need to change the mind set of collecting bribes which people have against them.

The Commissioner maintained that the present administration will not hesitate to sanction any sanitary inspector who compromises his or her duties.

He enjoined them to support the efforts of the Governor Alex Otti-led administration that has placed attention on cleanliness of the state, as well as restoring the sanitary inspectors across the state.

Ogbonna explained that the present administration is doing a lot in enhancing the environmental cleanliness of the State, promising that it will continue supporting the sanitary inspectors across the 17 LGAs of the state to discharge their duties effectively.
