The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command, says an accident along Nnewi-Okigwe Road at Amichi resulted in five fatalities on Friday night.
The sector commander, Mrs Joyce Alexander, confirmed the incident to newsmen at the weekend in Awka, attributing the accident to brake failure.
She said the crash involved a Mercedes-Benz truck with registration number NNE893ZG, a Honda motorcycle, and a Qlink motorcycle.
Alexander said that eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the truck was traveling on high speed, failed brake and collided with other vehicles and pedestrians.
she reported that six people were taken to the Anglican Diocesan Hospital in Amichi; three were dead on arrival, one died later, and two are responding to treatment.
According to her at Pat Angelina Hospital in Amichi, four were admitted with injuries; one man died, while the others are recovering.
The Sector Commander expressed her condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the importance of road safety.
She said, “This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the necessity to obey traffic rules and regulations.
“Vehicles should be well maintained to prevent malfunctioning that invariably leads to crashes.
She urged all road users to exercise caution and patience while driving to prevent such incidents in the future.
