Abia Police Command Apprehends 245 Suspects for Various Crimes

Abia State Police Command says 245 suspects were apprehended spanning from January 2025 to date in various tactical operations across the state, stating that some have been presecuted, others remanded in custody.

The Command said out of the 245 suspects, 15 are females while 230 are males just as it revealed that they were apprehended in connection with various crimes ranging from: murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, vandalism of government property, rape, cultism, defilement among others.

Addressing Journalists in his office at the Command’s Headquarters in Umuahia on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Police Command, CP Danladi Isa, said the various strategic operations embarked upon by the Police is yielding positive results as criminal elements have been arrested.

He revealed that the strategic operations led to the rescue of 9 kidnapped and 18 trafficked children, pointing out that the Police is not relenting in combating crime and ensuring that Abia continues to be crime free.

Giving further insights into achievements recorded by the Police for the period under review, CP Isa recalled the unfortunate attack on a group of Chinese expatriate en route their company at Agukwu Amaya Ndudu Community, Uturu in Isuikwuato LGA of Abia State.

He told the press that officers acting on tactical and credible intelligence, apprehended 35-year old Chisom Chikwendu (M) from Ngoli Logara Ngor Okpala, LGA of Imo State, who is now assisting the Police with credible information that will lead to the arrest of others involved in the unfortunate attack.

The Abia Police boss said his men have been proactive in tracking down criminal elements, revealing that a tactical team arrested three kidnappers in Ugwunagbo LGA of the State with exhibits, adding that they were interrogated and confessed to involving in the crime.

CP Isa said the Police is discharging duties bestowed on it by the constitution of the land, through Officers attached to the Anti- Cultism arrested 24 cultists at Ikwuano, LGA of the State with arms and weapons including: a locally made pistol, axe, one live cartridge, one machete among others. He said the suspects have been remanded at Afara Correctional Centre.

He also hinted of the various strides and arrests made on defilement of minors, saying the Ikwuano Headquarters Divisional recently apprehended a 41 year-old man from Ekpiri Ala Ala Community for defiling a one year old girl.

Isa said the suspect who has confessed to the crime will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation into the incident.

Responding to questions involving the recent reports in the media involving the abduction of students of the Abia State University Uturu, CP Isa informed that efforts are ongoing to ensure the release of the students, emphasizing that the Police in the State is working in close collaboration with other sister agencies to ensure they are released.

While thanking the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti for his support to the Police, CP Isa revealed that the two operational vehicles donated to the Police by the Governor has been deployed to Isuikwuato and Ohafia LGAs, to ensure that these areas are rid of activities of criminal elements, expressing optimism that very soon, the impact of this strategic operation which is still ongoing will be felt.

He said Operatives of Operation Crush, a joint security task force, with credible information nabbed three cattle rustlers in Ohiya, Umuahia South LGA of the State who were allegedly trying to steal 6 cows from a herd of 38 before they were nabbed, adding that the suspects have been transferred to the State C.I.D Umuahia where interrogation is still ongoing.

Isa said as part of strategies to avoid a recurrence, the Command has set up a team saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that incidences of cattle rustling do not occur in the State while also revealing that three people were also arrested for counterfeiting.

He assured Abians that the Police is dedicated to carrying out its duties of safeguarding lives and property, pledging to continue collaborating with other sister agencies and members of the society while it would continue to make professionalism the core of its operations.
