A former Imo state Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, has decried the disturbing rise in the number of unemployed youths in the country currently.
He called for appropriate actions to address the disturbing situation, pointing out that if not properly checkmated, it might spell doom for the country.
Madumere enjoined the Federal Government and other stakeholders to do something urgently, create employment opportunities to capture this frightening number of unemployed youths in the country.
He tasked the federal government, governors and business entrepreneurs to join hands together to solve the problem of unemployment in the country
Madumere who made the call on Monday while addressing newsmen in Owerri, advised the government and other stakeholders to put mechanisms in place, so as to re-energize and reinvigorate the civil service through accurate data and statistics, which would create room for adequate planning, retirement and recruitment of qualified personnel without sentiment.
The erstwhile deputy governor also expressed worry over insecurity, lack of industries, among others , calling for the resuscitation of moribund establishments, granting of soft loans to industrialists and encouragement of foreign investors through creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
Madumere, a governorship contender, come 2027, however, faulted the situation where youths are left to roam about the streets and called on the government to instill skill sets, revive technical education and create soft loans for the youths to establish their various businesses.
He said, “the time has come for a serious commitment in terms of enhancing the creativity of the youths through real and sustainable skill sets. The youths must be supported and empowered, shown the road map for the future and the leaders must be realistic and sincere in this direction as the youths are the leaders of tomorrow. We must show the light for them to find the way. ”
He called on the government and parents to encourage their children to acquire practical knowledge and experience to secure profitable jobs and advised youths to take their studies seriously, work conscientiously and be in a better position to defend areas of specialization.
Prince Madumere, revealed that the youths are central in building an egalitarian, enviable future and must occupy center stage in the global community.
His words, “available statistics revealed that there are more than 80 million youths struggling with unemployment, out of a total youth population of 151 million. This positions the country as having one of the highest rates of youth unemployment globally. This is a big challenge and we must confront same frontally, as it may lead to social instability, economic stagnation and deprivation”.
