Nwifuru Sets up Committee to Reactivate First Indigenous Cement Company

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, has set up a 15-member committee to reactivate the premier cement company, NIGERCEM, Nkalagu.

Nwifuru announced the names of the committee members at a public function on Monday in Abakaliki, the State capital.

Southeastposts recalls that NIGERCEM was the first indigenous cement manufacturing company in the country.

Members of the committee as announced by Governor Nwifuru are : Mrs. Catherine Ogbu, Prof. Adline Idike, Mr. Iduma Igariwey, Prof. Ben Odoh, Mr Sunday Eze, and Senator Chris Nwankwo.

Others include: Senator Ken Eze, Senator Antony Ani, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Mr. Elias Mbam, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji, Mr. Roy Umahi (SAN), Senator Obinna Ogba, Senator Silvanus Ngiji-Ngele, and Chief Ben Okah.

Governor Nwifuru charged the committee members to co-operate with the significant investor and shareholders to work out modalities for the immediate commencement of operations in the company, which had been moribund for decades.

He gave the committee two weeks to submit its report on the modalities to provide a solution to the problem.
