The Imo State Government has announced the award of a contract for the reconstruction of the 35.1-kilometre Owerri – Elele Road to Craneburg Construction Company.
The road which was awarded at the weekend, had been in a state of disrepair for many years.
Revealing this to newsmen, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Development, Ralph Nwosu, said the state governor, Hope Uzodimma, had resolved to construct, reconstruct, and rehabilitate critical roads in the 27 local councils of the state, regarding the project as a “significant milestone.”
He said the Owerri Control Post Interchange flyover, opposite the Assumpta Catholic Cathedral, Owerri, being constructed by Craneburg Construction Company, was almost completed.
Nwosu stated that the essence of embarking on the projects was to improve the road’s condition, enhance connectivity; facilitate economic growth and safety for motorists and pedestrians, revealing that the contractor had begun mobilising to the site.
He promised that the project would be strictly monitored and supervised to ensure quality construction in line with the specifications as contained in the Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME), signed by the two parties.
Nwosu said: “Although the road is a Federal road, it is being undertaken by Imo State Government in MOU mode of execution, and considering that the road has been in a state of disrepair and near impassable condition, hence His Excellency’s approval to award the road in order to abate the long suffering of our people and travellers.
