The Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu has called on the people of the South-East to align with mainstream politics by ensuring they support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
According to Ononogbu, his call for the re-election of President Tinubu stems from his uncommon leadership qualities, which he exhibited by removing the fuel subsidy regime in the country that benefited few individuals.
Ononogbu, flanked by the State Secretary, Chidi Avoaja and other members of the State Exco, made the call on Thursday at the state party Secretariat in Umuahia while officially welcoming Chief Mark Ugorji back to the APC.
Ononogbu lamented that before the emergence of President Tinubu in 2023, few individuals were benefiting from the subsidy regime, insisting that President Tinubu took the best decision for Nigeria and the country at large by announcing its suspension and making adequate provision for the nation not to feel it’s consequences.
He said, “President Tinubu has shown uncommon leadership qualities. He has taken some hard and tough decisions that have benefitted Nigeria and the people of the South-East in general. How can some few individuals be siphoning resources belonging to the people of Nigeria?
Ononogbu emphasized the need for the South-East to support the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027, maintaining that apart from appointing an Igbo man as the Chief of Naval Staff (Rear Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla), the President has also gone ahead to establish the South-East Development Commission (SEDC), to ensure that the South-East region is included in the scheme of things in the country.
He challenged the people of South-East to be wise, and stop going about with the misconception that no single individual can emerge President of Nigeria without South-East votes, stressing that elections in the country in recent times, have shown that without South-East votes, Presidents of the country can emerge, hence the need for the people of South-East to jettison such notion.
Ononogbu maintained that voting massively for President Tinubu in 2027 will align the zone to mainstream politics, commending the efforts of the member representing Bende Federal Constituency and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu for continuously representing the interest of the zone.
He reminded Chief Mark Ugorji that APC has its doors open to come in and be accommodated, urging him to work for the interest of the party no matter how he was treated in the past.
Ononogbu also told APC members to acknowledge that no single individual has monopoly of the party, stressing the need for all to play their parts in achieving the goals of the party as well as be proud to market the party wherever they found themselves.
Earlier, Chief Mark Ugorji said he has decided to visit the party officially to assist in repositioning the party and ensure that Abia works for the re-election of President Tinubu come 2027.
Ugorji who recalled that he once funded the party, including payment of the salaries of staff, said because of the gravity of lies among others peddled against him, he left the party but re-assured that he was back to the party to align with Hon. Benjamin Kalu and his Renewed hope partners and other like minds in Umuahia South to ensure that the party secures massive vote for the APC in 2027 especially from Umuahia South Local Government Area.
In his words, Ugorji stated that he mistakenly went to help another guber candidate in 2023, who eventually lost but hurriedly returned back to APC in the same 2023 precisely in July same year. I will continue to support the party despite not having money like those who have but don’t bring it out. I have decided to leave all that happened in the past behind, including the betrayal and denials, together we shall ensure that we work together to give President Bola Tinubu victory come 2027”.
Ugorji pledged to support the party and respect its leadership. He appreciated his supporters from the 10 wards in Umuahia South and appealed to the people of Umuahia South to make sure they commence immediate mobilisation of membership for the re-elect of President Tinubu, who according to him has done enough for the South-East region.
On his part, a party chieftain, Engr Chris Okpechi, appreciated Chief Mark Ugorji for what he has been doing in the APC, expressing optimism that he will even do more for the party, saying he is happy that younger people are joining the APC so as to take over from the elderly ones when they finally retire.
