Contribute to Community Development, Abia Govt Tasks Newly Sworn-in Corps Members

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has enjoined the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 corps members deployed to the state to contribute to the development of their host communities throughout their service year.

Otti made the call during the swearing-in ceremony of the corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende Local Government Area, on April 25, 2025.

The Governor stressed the critical role of the NYSC scheme in nation-building and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the scheme.

Governor Otti, represented by Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, urged the corps members to participate actively in all activities designed to condition them physically and mentally for the demands of the service year.

He said, “The NYSC scheme plays a critical role in nation-building, and my administration is committed to strengthening the scheme and enhancing its capacity to meet its mandate,” Otti stated.

On her part, the State Coordinator, NYSC Abia, Mrs. Gladys Adama, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his support to the scheme and appealed for relocation of NYSC state secretariat and payment of monthly stipends to corps members.

While declaring open the orientation course, the Governor congratulated the new NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, on his appointment and prayed for his success in office.

Correspondent reports that the corps members were sworn-in by Justice Chido Wakama.

The swearing-in ceremony marked the beginning of the corps members’ service year, and they are expected to make meaningful contributions to their host communities.
