Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), says it has concluded arrangements to hold the 2nd Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara Lecture.
A release issued to newsmen on Wednesday by the Chief Public Relations Officer & Head of Public Relations Unit, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Ubadire Agua, (Ph.D), said the lecture will hold during the University’s 2025 Founder’s Day Celebration.
According to Agua, while the 2nd Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara Lecture will hold on Friday, May 2, 2025, in the main bowl of the newly completed and furnished Modern Public Lecture Theatre by 12 pm, an interdenominational thanksgiving service, and a session with the Alumni will hold on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Senator Anyim Pius Anyim Auditorium by 10 am and 1.30pm.
The release revealed that the 2nd Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara Lecture, titled “agripreneur model for attainment of national food security and economic development: The Dr. M. I. Okpara approach in retrospect – Leveraging the South East Development Commission (SEDC) as a modern vehicle for legacy continuity”, will be delivered by the Chairman of the South-East Development Commission (SEDC), Chief Dr. Emeka Wogu, CON, NPOM, under the distinguished chairmanship of Senator Austin Akobundu (Rtd.), Senator, Abia Central Senatorial Zone.
The release further stated that the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, will be the Chief Host of the Event, while the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Comrade Fidelis C. Edeh, will be the Host, just as Chief Uzodinma Okpara, son of the late Premier, will serve as the Co-host.
Political leaders, government officials and policy makers, entrepreneurs and business moguls in the agriculture sub-sector and the academia from South East, Nigeria, are hereby invited to witness this epoch making event.
Recall that the Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara Lecture series was initiated by the Administration of the 6th Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, CFS, as one of the ways to relive the legacies of the legendary Premier of the defunct Eastern Region of Nigeria, late Dr. M. I. Okpara, who was renowned for his agricultural revolutionary policies in the Region.
The Maiden Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara Lecture was held in May, 2023 at the 30th anniversary of MOUAU and was delivered by the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and current Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
