The People’s Democratic Party in Abia State has announced the expulsion of the Chairman Board of Trustee of the Party, Senator Adolphus Wabara.

Addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Umuahia, the State Chairman of the party, Elder Abraham Amah, recalled that during the announcement of his suspension as BoT Chairman over anti-party activities, a Seven-member Disciplinary Committee was set up.

According to him, the Committee did due diligence to the task given them including carrying out investigations, inviting Senator Wabara to respond to the allegations of anti-party activities leveled against him ab initio, stressing that he ignored several invitations by the Committee.

Amah stated that it is on this premise, that the State Working Committee, SWC, has decided to announce the expulsion of the former BoT Chairman, whom he also said, did not show remorse even after being accused of anti-party activities but went ahead a second time to endorse Governor Alex Otti at the International Conference Center.

He pointed out that the BoT Chairman approached a Court in Ukwa to obtain a Court order restraining the state chairman of the PDP from implementing the suspension instead of addressing the matter or being remorseful.

Amah said in line with Article 57(3) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), which stipulates that an expelled member cannot exercise any rights or privileges within the party, the Abia State Executive Committee, has, however recommended the immediate appointment of an Acting BoT Chairman by the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.

He reaffirmed the readiness of Abia State PDP to uphold party discipline, ensuring that all members operate within the ambit of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended).

Amah revealed that the party is committed to preserving unity, loyalty, and respect for party structures, stressing that no member, regardless of status is above the party’s rules and regulations.

Recall that Wabara was suspended initially for endorsing Governor Alex Otti for a second tenure barely five months into the governor’s administration in October 2023.

Commenting on the defection of the member representing Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Rowland Dennis Chinwendu to Labour Party, LP, Amah said a letter has been sent to the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa to declare the seat of the former PDP member vacant.
