The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, South-East region, Chioma Nweze, at the weekend hinted that the federal government is set to launch community empowerment programmes in the Southeast zone.
According to the presidential aide, the programme titled ‘Launching Skill-Up S-East Through Fashion Training and Health Initiative’ is designed to empower communities in the South East region of Nigeria.
She made this known through in a statement in Abakaliki, noting that the event will be held on March 8, 2025, at the Vocational Centre, Uburu, Ohaozara LGA, Ebonyi State.
Nweze explained that one of the programmes, Health Initiative, which is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s promotion of healthy communities in the Southeast region of Nigeria, will offer free cancer screening for six months, free eye testing and free glasses for the first 200 patients, and free dialysis for one year.
She added that the health programme will be done in conjunction with the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences and the Ebonyi State Government.
Nwaeze stated that the other programme, Unveiling Fashion Potentials, is a four-month free tailoring training exercise aimed at unveiling the fashion potential in Igbo-Land, adding that participants will have free accommodation for the duration of the programme and empowerment with modern tailoring facilities after the training.
