Governor Otti Extols Abians, Sues For Support For His Administration

The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has extolled the resilience and unity of Abians despite the difference in dialect and background.

The governor stated this during the flag off of the 12.6 km Ohanze-Ntighauzo-Obete-Umuoha-Oberete-Akirika Obu Road and the 5.5 km Owerrinta-Umuikaa Road on Wednesday, expected to improve connectivity, ease transportation, and stimulate economic activities in the region.

The first flag off ceremony took place at Orie Agalaba Junction in the Obingwa Local Government Area, where the Governor launched the construction of the Ohanze-Akirika Obu Road. The Governor, in his speech titled, “A Gateway to the New Abia”, emphasised that the road project would not only beautify the area but also reduce the risk of road accidents and attract investors to the state.

On his part, the Commissioner for Works, Otumchere Oti, described the project as a strategic investment in the state’s economy, noting that the road construction is part of Governor Otti’s broader agenda to enhance Abia’s road infrastructure and drive socio-economic growth.

He further explained that the 12.6km road will have a 7-meter-wide carriageway with asphaltic concrete pavement, drainage structures, erosion control measures, and solar streetlights in built-up areas. According to the commissioner, the project, which has a contract duration of 12 months, is expected to ease transportation and reduce travel time for road users.

Representing the contractors, the project director, I. Ac Allied Tech and Construction Co. Ltd., Engr. Dia Hourani noted that the contract symbolises hope and the governor’s dedication to his citizens.

Following this, the Governor proceeded to Umuikaa, where he flagged off the dualisation of the Owerrinta-Umuikaa Road at the Primary School Compound of The Seventh Day Adventist Church, Umuikaa. The 5.5 km road serves as a key gateway into Abia State and will enhance trade and commerce, while improving road safety.

Otti encouraged residents to support development efforts by paying their taxes regularly, assuring that the state has eliminated the old practice of using thugs for revenue collection. The governor assured residents that his administration is committed to expanding urban infrastructure, improving broadband access, and partnering private investors to drive economic growth.

The contractor, Mr. Jack Mallauos of Paceo Carrtera, assured the government and people of Abia that the road would be built to the highest standard.

He reaffirmed his company’s commitment to delivering a durable and high-quality road.

The ceremonies featured cultural displays, as residents used the opportunity to pray for Governor Otti ahead his upcoming birthday on Tuesday.

They also praised his commitment to road construction, believing it would bring economic prosperity and improve their daily lives.
