As Abia State Government begins receiving application online for Teachers’ recruitment, the State government has warned against all forms of bribery and extortion of job seekers in the teachers employment exercise approved by Governor Alex Otti.
Recall that Governor Otti had last week approved the employment of more than two thousand teachers in a bid to revive education and address the shortage of teachers in the state.
Sources said thousands of job seekers have applied for the teaching jobs.
Meanwhile, the state government has raised alarm that some of the desperate job seekers may fall into the hands of “unpatriotic elements” who she said, have positioned themselves to hijack the exercise by extorting and defrauding applicants.
In a statement issued by Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, said that the recruitment exercise would be transparent.
The recruitment is being conducted through online application by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
Ekeoma said, “Simply put, there’s no room for bribery or compromise of any kind as a condition for the employment of any teacher.
“Anyone caught trying to circumvent the rules and guidelines for the selection as directed by the governor, shall be made to bear heavy consequences, according to the law,” the statement warned.
Ekeoma also enjoined the applicants and the general public to report anyone, including officials of Abia State government, who may demand any form of bribery for the teaching jobs.
