As part of efforts to protect people with disability in society, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to enforcing the Imo State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2021.
He made the declaration during an address to Imo women, led by the Commissioner for Women Affairs in the state, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, at a special advocacy held in Owerri the Imo State Capital recently.
Southeastposts reports that the event was part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, GBV, a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and eliminating violence against women, children and other vulnerable groups in the State.
At the event, Lady Ugwu, former house member of Njaba Constituency, in the state Assembly, Uju Onwudiwe and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs Stella Chinecherem, called for stronger collaboration with the police to ensure the effective enforcement of the VAPP law.
They stressed the importance of a united approach to protecting vulnerable groups, particularly women and children, from all forms of violence.
Similarly, the Police Commissioner, CP Danjuma assured the public that the state Police Command is committed to swift and decisive action against offenders.
He enjoined citizens to report any incidents of violence, promising that all complaints would be handled with professionalism and confidentiality.
