Southeastposts has learnt that an unidentified man has been electrocuted while attempting to steal a transformer cable in the Onogoro area of Ebonyi State.
It was learnt that the already decomposing lifeless body was found inside the transformer premises.
Residents of the area, who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity, said they are not aware of the cause of the man’s death but noted that the decomposing corpse has been scaring residents away since Friday morning when the man was discovered.
They added that the incident attracted officials of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and teams from the Nigeria Police Force but expressed concern that they have abandoned the deceased’s body for three days since it was found.
They also appealed to the Ebonyi State Government and security agencies to evacuate the corpse, stating that the decomposing body poses a health threat to residents of the area.
It was also learnt that when newsmen contacted, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, he confirmed the incident and said efforts are ongoing to evacuate the corpse.
