The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Col. Austin Akobundu (Rtd), has called on the President Bola Tinubu led administration to allocate more Ministerial seats to the South-East region as a way of giving the region a sense of belonging.
The Senator who stated this in Umuahia recently, expressed disaffection over what he described as shortchanging of the South-East region, stressing that the zone was not fully represented when the first set of appointments were made by President Tinubu led Federal Government.
He informed that there were moves by the Senate to draw the attention of the Executive on the development, adding that as members of the Senate from the South-East they would continue to do their best in raising the consciousness of the Government on the yearnings and aspirations of the people for proper spread of appointments to accommodate more States and possibly have two Ministers in some States of the federation.
The Senator used the opportunity to announce that work would soon commence on the long abandoned Ikot Ekpene-Ikwuano road which has now become a death trap for motorists and other road users.
On the Local Government Elections slated for Saturday November 2, 2024, he said his party, the People’s Democratic Parry (PDP) and her members are not afraid of the Government in power in the State, revealing that they are fully prepared to go into the election and make a statement.
The federal lawmaker, stated that since assumption of office as a Senator, he has been championing the enrolment of thousand of youths to ICT/Skills acquisition programs in addition to training of teachers in his constituency.
