The Ebonyi State Police Command has commenced investigation into alleged professional misconduct against some of its personnel who indulge in extorting money from motorists.

This followed a recent viral video trending online which showed some personnel on duty at a checkpoint allegedly extorting motorcycle operators and other road users.

In two separate video clips shown online uniformed persons suspected to be personnel of the Nigeria Police Force were seen indulging in the act, collecting what appeared to be naira notes from commercial motorcycle riders, motorists, and depositing same in their vaults.

The videos posted by armature cameras, closely got the corrupt activities of the officers which happened over the weekend at the Ishike and Hilltop checkpoints in Abakaliki metropolis.

Meanwhile in statement issued on Tuesday by the State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu, he noted that the Police authorities have strongly condemned the actions of the identified officers involved, stating that disciplinary actions have been initiated against them to serve as deterrent to others.

He said, “The Command unequivocally condemns their actions and has identified the officers involved, while disciplinary actions have already been initiated against them.
