The Abia State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Asonye has hinted that non-compliance to sanitation laws by defaulters will attract arrest and prosecution under the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
A press statement from the Abia State Ministry of Environment signed by the Commissioner on Tuesday, announced that the monthly sanitation exercise for October will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, and will be held from 7:00 am to 10:00 am across the state, during which the movement of people and vehicles will be restricted.
The Commissioner stressed that only those on essential duties, with proper identification, will be allowed to move during the sanitation period.
He enjoined local government Mayors, traditional rulers, town union leaders, religious leaders, youths and women organizations to take part in the exercise and help create awareness among their people.
