Oko Chukwu , Ohuabunwa, Igwe, others Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Abia PDP

As part of efforts to revive the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the Former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu has called on aggrieved members of the party across board to keep their agitations aside and fight for the interest of the party.

Oko Chukwu who stated this while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after a meeting with members of the party in Umuahia, said it has become pertinent for members to leave the events of 2023 general election aside and work towards a resurgent PDP even as the State chairmanship position of the party has been zoned to Abia North.

Oko Chukwu, said the essence of the meeting, hinges on stressing the need for stakeholders in Abia North and the entire PDP to understand the need to bring everyone on board, adding that members cannot continue citing events of the past, stating that there is need to move ahead and form a formidable force.

On their position regarding the chairmanship position of the party zoned to Abia North, he said the party in the zone, expects that the six candidates gunning for the position should be able to talk to themselves on who is to step down for the other so that the entire process will be easy and favourable to all the candidates.

Also Speaking, an aggrieved member of the party, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, said it is only when the members are united that the party can whisk power from the ruling Labour Party in the State, adding that he was aggrieved but have since moved on for the interest of the party and called on others to do same.

He said the meeting afforded them the opportunity to come together as a force from Abia North and Abia State in general and reaffirm their commitment, sincerity of purpose and unity to building the People’s Democratic Party PDP, for the purpose of winning future elections in the State especially after the poor outing during the 2023 general elections.

Senator Ohubunwa, said they have also accepted wholeheartedly, the State Chairmanship position zoned to Abia North, revealing that they have resolved not to allow external forces come in between the process of arriving at who will emerge as the Chairman among the six individuals gunning for the position from the zone, saying they want to have a Chairman of Abia PDP who is truly of Abia North extraction and who they can rely on.

He also used the forum to congratulate the State Assembly members in PDP for keeping the flag flying just as he appealed to party faithful to continue supporting the party and having hope of a resurgent PDP, while dismissing insinuations that their would be an endorsement of the next chairman of the party after the ward, LG and state congresses.

On his part, the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party, in the 2023 election, Hon. Okey Igwe, said they believe that the zoning of the State chairmanship position of the party to Abia North would enable them choose the most competent from the 6 people gunning for the position.
