Gov Otti Reaffirms Commitment to Improve Working Conditions of Judiciary

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the working conditions of the judiciary in the State.

Governor Otti stated this on Friday as a special guest in a Church Service at Federal Medical Medical Centre, Umuahia chapel as part of activities to mark the 2024/2025 Legal Year celebration in the State.

The Governor who expressed concern over the difficulties faced by the judiciary workers especially the dilapidated states of many court rooms, said his Government had begun the retrofitting of Court halls across the 17 LGAs, including introducing innovations such as automation of the judicial process in the State.

While urging them to embrace new technological tools, he appreciated the theme of the celebration “Advancing justice in Abia State: Tradition meets Innovation”, and reassured Abians of better days ahead.

Also Speaking the Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Lilian Abai, while describing the significance of the legal year’s commencement, highlighted various challenges plaguing the judiciary to include; congested court dockets, delays in case adjudication, limited access to courts in rural areas.

She outlined plans to introduce mobile court apps and virtual hearings to make the justice system more inclusive and revealed that plans are underway to establish Small Claims Courts in Umuahia and Aba.

Preaching on the topic; “Building From reproach to rejoicing: A man of difference,” Rev Earnest Onyeukwu of the Methodist Church implored the judicial officials not to be distracted but discharge their functions with the fear of God as “the Judiciary is the last hope of the common man.

Correspondent reports that the occasion featured special prayer for the Governor and the judicial officers as well as parades by the Nigeria Police force.
