The All Progressives Congress, APC in Abia State, has apologized to Abians, the Governor of the State, Dr. Alex Otti, over the viral video put out by the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rep Benjamin Kalu, saying it is an assault on the Electoral Act.

Recall that a video shared on social media on Monday captured Kalu saying that as the number six citizen, it was inappropriate for his state to be ruled by the Labour Party.

In the video, Rep Kalu vowed that Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party would be unseated, adding that Otti would be the only and the last LP governor to govern Abia State.

Speaking on Wednesday on Spin FM political programme “Hard Talk”, the Publicity Secretary, All Progressives Congress, Abia State Chapter, Chief Okey Ezeala, said APC is a disciplined party, maintaining that the party does not nurture lords but leaders who understand the essence of delivering dividends of democracy to the people.

He said in APC, party supremacy reigns, saying that APC, does not promote grandstanding against the franchise of the people going into 2027, stressing that in as much as it is the wish of every politician to wish his party victory in election, it is early to engage in such action which is tantamount to distractions for President Bola Tinubu who has warned that all electioneering campaigns should be suspended.

Chief Ezeala noted that President Tinubu expects all elected officials under the party to begin to deliver dividends of democracy to the people and not engaging in media vituperations targeted at causing a breach to the political tranquility enjoyed in the country since the 2023 general elections.

He apologized to Abians, Governor Alex Otti, insisting that the APC cannot determine where the next governor of the State will come from, revealing that such statement is an assault and a cajole of the Electoral Ect.

Chief Ezeala said Rep. Kalu is not the party spokesperson nor permitted to speak on issues of this magnitude, maintaining that the party has armed him as the Public Relations Officer of the Party with the mandate to ensure that the image of the party is well represented in the media space.

“In his words, “it is only Abians that will determine the next Governor not APC, LP. Rep Benjamin Kalu is not a Public Relations expert, such media vituperations were not necessary. He is not the party spokesperson and doesn’t have the mandate of the party. But in all, we sincerely apologize to Abians who have the exclusive reserve to elect their leaders in 2027”.

Chief Ezeala, who also spoke briefly on subsidy removal, said the effect of the removal of the subsidy has been felt as Governors of the 36 states of the federation including FCT, have had their allocations doubled or tripled, calling on Abians and Nigerians to hold their representatives including Governors accountable for not properly implementing programmes of the federal government appropriately.

He also spoke on new members defecting to the APC, insisting that till date, APC remains a party to beat, having internal democracy, boasting that APC is better positioned in the State as it is the only political party with structures across the 184 wards of the State.
