Owners of Demolished Property at Govt College Accuse Gov Otti of Inhumane Treatment

The owners of property demolished by the Abia State Government at Government College Umuahia, have made some revelations, accusing the State Government of treating them unfairly.

The owners of the property including Mr. Kalu from Abia North, Justice and lkechukwu who brandished the authority papers issued them by the Ministry of Lands under the previous administration, explained that they did not acquire the lands illegally as being said by the state government and Old Boys Association of Government College Umuahia.

The owners of the property demolished including series of flamboyant buildings, and lands for industries, said it was their genuine interest in developing the state that prompted them to come back home to invest.

They wondered why the administration of Dr. Alex Otti who pretends to be luring investors to the state would demolish and seal up their multi -million naira investments on the pretence of revoking what the previous administration did.

They described the action of the Labour Party administration in the state as inhuman, pointing out that the government ought to have negotiated with them since the lands were duly acquired and documents given to them by the previous administration.

They described what has happened to them at home, as what has been happening in the Western part of the country which made them come back home to invest.

Meanwhile, the occupants of the buildings, mostly lecturers and civil servants, are now helpless and do not know what to do, as they described the exercise as inhuman.

Reacting to the development, a son of Umuana Ndume, Mr Meregini described the action of the state government as impunity of the highest order, pointing out that the areas in question were not part of lands donated to Fisher, the original owner of Government College by Umuana Community.

Mr Meregini explained that the Government College Old Boys could not prove that the areas belonged to them at the court and withdrew from a case instituted by them sensing that they would lose as the community had all the documents related to the donation of the lands.

According to Mr Meregini, the Old Boys of Government College Umuahia now run from government to government to forcibly collect the lands belonging to the community in connivance with someone from the community who is in Government with his illegal executive committee.
