The Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership has commended President Bola Tinubu for reopening the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, ending decades of neglect by past administrations.
In a statement on Wednesday, Ohanaeze’s deputy president, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and national spokesperson, Chinyeze Ohia, said the move is “timely and commendable”, transforming a “logistical nightmare” and “perilous deathtrap” into a vital thoroughfare.
The group recalled past administrations’ neglect, saying Tinubu’s action “rewrites the narrative of the Igbo” and fosters an “infrastructural revolution” in the Southeast.
It is believed that the 107km dual carriageway is a “legacy project” that may influence 2027 voting patterns.
Ohanaeze urged Tinubu to allocate funds to complete ongoing Federal Road Projects in the Southeast, listing roads needing attention.
Ohanaeze appreciated President Tinubu and Works Minister Senator Dave Umahi for the achievement.
