Abia Monthly Sanitation Exercise for October Holds Saturday

Abia State Government has announced that the monthly sanitation exercise for the month of October will hold this Saturday October 25, 2025 across the state between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00am.

A statement on Wednesday signed by the Commissioner Ministry of Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna and issued to newsmen through the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Mrs. Chidinma Obioma, said movement of people and vehicles during the period of three hours shall be restricted except those on essential duty who would be required to present on demand, valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.

The statement urged the Executive Chairmen (Mayors) of the Local Government Councils , Traditional rulers,Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders,Youth and Women Organizations in the State to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate as well.

The statement stated that all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises are to remain closed on Friday October 24, 2025 between the hours of 7:00am and 9:00am to carry out their own clean-up exercise, adding that there will be tippers on Saturday to cart away refuse scooped out from the gutters.

While appreciating the collaboration between the Ministry and the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, the statement enjoined them to endeavour to assemble at their usual place of take-off for deployment.

The statement further advised Abians to stay at home, clean up their surroundings and work with their nose mask, pointing out that defaulters shall be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.

The statement reads in part, “The general public is hereby informed that the Monthly Sanitation Exercise for the Month of October will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 in Abia State between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00am.

“The Executive Chairmen (Mayors) of the Local Government Councils , Traditional rulers,Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders,Youth and Women Organizations in the State are required to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate as well”.
