The report quoted a police wireless message, which indicates that the incident occurred at about 9:00 am on Sunday at MRS Fuel Station, Abor Umulolo, Okigwe, Imo State.

The sources said the gunmen reportedly opened fire at the officers, injuring at least three. They were immediately rushed to the hospital where one Inspector Umaru Mohammed was confirmed dead.

Efforts to reach the Imo State Police Command was unsuccessful at press time as the spokesperson of the command, Henry Okoye did not take his calls nor responded to text messages forwarded to him.
